A committee involved in the recruitment of a superintendent to replace Larry Kauzlarich at the helm of Jordan Public Schools came up with a neat informational tool, prior to the hiring of Kirk Nelson.

It details the elementary, middle, and high schools, along with some of the interesting sites in the city and nearby townships.

When I first started working at your local newspaper, the Jordan Independent, I found prominent Jordanite Keith Thaves to be particularly encouraging to me, as an editor. He was a former publisher and editor of the paper, which he purchased in 1957.

During the past couple of days, I've been working on a story about the death of Thaves. He had suffered two heart attacks since September. He was married to Liz and had three children, Alisa, Jeff, and Chris. The story will be published in the Feb. 7 print edition.

During the holiday break, Jordan Elementary School was a busy place.

Not only were workers installing new SMART boards, but there were also workers from Trane balancing the school’s heating and cooling duct system.

The district has a service contract with the company, Superintendent Larry Kauzlarich said. And while they didn’t install the system in the elementary school, they were able to better balance the airflow within the school.

Jordan Elementary School has SMART boards in all second-, third-, and fourth-grade classrooms at the school, according to Principal Stacy DeCorsey’s written report to the Jordan School Board.

The staff at the school visited East Union Elementary School in Carver to learn how to better incorporate the boards into their teaching.

Jordan’s public school principals have suggested they don’t attend future meetings of the Jordan School Board.

The Jordan School Board discussed its schools’ policies on allowing police to interview students without parental consent at the board’s Sept. 10 meeting.

Jordan Elementary School will work around its theme of “beads on a string” throughout the school year.

Jordan Elementary School began its Northwestern Education Association (NWEA) testing this week, according to Principal Stacy DeCorsey.
