It's important for a small town like Jordan to have all of the advantages of larger towns. A newspaper that cares about you is one aspect of Jordan that I think is especially beneficial.
Are you the biggest Minnesota Vikings fan in Jordan? Then your local newspaper is looking for you!
Tell us why you are the most fanatic in town, and you might be featured in the paper.
It's been a lifetime since the Vikings went to the Super Bowl, so join in the fun.
The city of Jordan made the Jordan Independent its official newspaper again.
In a vote last Monday, the city council unanimously chose your local newspaper as the place for publication of its official notices and other relevant publications of city-related items.
Most of what the city publishes in the JI is required by law, and rightfully so -- you ought to know about potential tax increases, ordinance changes, and important meetings.
Are you a very last-minute shopper?

My voicemail reminded me of what I knew was coming – it’d been five years.
Last Tuesday, Oct. 13, was my five-year anniversary as editor of the Jordan Independent. A phone message from Mark Weber, general manager of Southwest Newspapers, made me think of all of the reasons why I don’t plan on leaving anytime soon.
To explain my reasoning, I ought to first tell you what Weber said in his voicemail:
The conversation on the Web site for your local newspaper continually entertains and edifies me.
One of the great things about my job is that it gets me out of my comfort zone.
Our newsstands have been close to selling out lately. That means you like what you're reading.
Thanks for buying the Jordan Independent.
If the newsstands (http://www.jordannews.com/newsstands) are out of the product that you want to buy, stop by our office, 109 Rice St. S. in downtown Jordan.
Our newsstand includes these Thursday papers:
- the Jordan Independent, $1 a copy;
- the Shakopee Valley News, $1 a copy;
- the Chaska Herald, $1 a copy;
- the Chanhassen Villager, $1 a copy;
- and the Eden Prairie News, $1 a copy.
I've tried it long enough. I'm going public with this now.
