It was a hot day.

Some children decided to cool off in the Mill Pond, in Jordan's Lagoon Park. They entered the water near the cannon that sits at the entrance to the park, near the intersection of Park and Sunset drives and Varner Street, and they swam out to the fountain.

Mayor Ron Jabs saw them and became concerned about them horsing around, damaging the fountain, or getting into the deepest part of the pond, but he didn't think he needed to call the police.

Today, the St. Paul Pioneer Press did a touching piece on a memorial to Minnesota soldiers who died in Iraq.

Savannah Anderson, the 4-year-old child of Hannah and deceased Pfc. Joshua Anderson of Jordan, is pictured in an online slideshow touching her father's boots.

"She doesn't know he's dead," Hannah is quoted as saying. "All she knows is he's not here."

At the Baden house, our Halloween tradition is emptying out our cupboards and giving goodies out to trick-or-treaters from the neighborhood.
