The Jordan City Council voted earlier this month to exchange with St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church the right to build a parking lot on the West Street right-of-way for permission for the city of Jordan to use a portion of the property as a staging area during the construction of an addition to the water treatment plant.

Jordan will excavate the parking lot site and place 9 inches of rock in the area at a cost of $10,000. The cost had been worked into the project bid for the water plant expansion.

So far, well No. 8 is 220 feet deep.

It's got to 380 more feet to reach 600 feet, where it will tap into the Mt. Simon aquifer.

It should be operational by February, said Dave Bendzick, Jordan Public Works director.

The Jordan City Council approved a partial payment of $25,000 to E.H. Renner, the company doing the digging behind the water treatment plant near St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in lowertown Jordan.

Contractor E.H. Renner recently began drilling Well No. 8.

Come 2009, Jordan will have a new well from which to draw water.
