This weekend is too busy already.

Not only do you have the Jordan citywide garage sale, but you’ve also got Jordan High School’s production of “The Hobbit” and the movie theater premier of “Iron Man” – both of which I really want to see. And on the sports side of things, you've got several NBA games and the Jordan Wood Bat tournament.

But I’m missing them all to help my sister and her family move into a new house in Wisconsin and to attend the wedding of a college friend.

My wonderful future wife and I were talking about our senses of humor last night. There are definitely some common points that both of us find funny, but we also vary greatly in our respective tastes.

For instance, we both agree that “Full House” is never funny, unless in an unintentional way because it is so corny. We also both laugh out loud at “The Cosby Show” and “Elf.”

I don’t know if you’ve been following how big a summer this will be for me and my movie-watching nerd-ness, so I’ll just mention that you can do a search for Indiana Jones on this site and come across countless blog posts about how the next installment comes out this summer and how I’m ridiculously excited for it.

Well, toss in another Batman sequel and a few other comic book movies, and my summer movie slate is already brimming with geek-tastic moments. To make matters worse, I have recently found out that the next “X-Files” movie will make its debut in July.

Today’s the day we’ve all been waiting for, folks! Behold old Indy in all his ancient and yet action-filled glory:

Surprises are not always good. Especially if you're Tom Hanks, who plays Joe Banks in "Joe Versus the Volcano."

So he's talking to Meg Ryan (who plays three characters who turn out to be love possibilities for Banks/Hanks) while they are making out. He tells her why his outlook on life has drastically changed.

Her answer:

"You tell me you're dying. You tell me you're jumping into a volcano. I don't know what to say."

Would anyone? Man, except for how depressing it is at times, I love that movie.

Earlier this weekend, I was reading an article online about expectations for the weekend box office. The article mentioned that Martin Luther King, Jr. Day was (which is today) had become something of a cash cow for movie theaters, because most students have the day off (including Jordan’s students).

I spent New Year's Eve watching 21 hours of movie musicals. Guys, don't laugh, I'm serious.

These are the movies: "West Side Story" from 1961, "Chicago" from 2002, "Little Shop of Horrors" from 1982 (yes, I've seen the old version, too), "Moulin Rouge" from 2001 (during which I dozed off), "The King and I" from 1956 (during which I was in bed), "Annie" from 1981 (during which I was cooking bacon for five), "Music Man" from 1962, and "Hairspray" from 2007.

Well, it’s that time of year again – the time where everyone looks back on the year that was and decides they need to lose weight.

Sure, I probably could stand to drop a few pounds. But that’s just one of the reasons that I don’t like New Year’s resolutions – if I really needed to lose weight, why wait until Jan. 1 to make a change in my lifestyle? But even a New Year Scrooge like myself can’t escape the allure of listing off a few of the things I’ve resolved myself to do sometime within the next few months.

With all the year-end attention focused on the “best of” 2007 (including the Jordan Independent’s own chronology of last year), I got to thinking about how many things I like best from the last year that never get mentioned. So here are a few of the best things about 2007 in my opinion:
