The traffic reporter on the radio this morning said, "Watch out. There's a heavy fog."
I laughed.
I was driving right where they said there was a heavy fog, but the fog had lifted far above the roadway. It was no danger at all.
Then I came to Spring Lake Township. Whew! As I drove into Sand Creek Township and then Jordan along Highway 282 this morning, the visibility was probably only a few blocks.
So not all weather reports are bogus after all.
This morning, during my drive to work, I heard atheist P.Z. Myers of Minnesota State University in Morris on the radio speaking about creationism and evolution.
One of the interesting points he made was that professors have academic freedom to express their opinions in the classroom. Students, too, he said, can express their opinions -- Christian, atheist, or otherwise, but they need to learn the facts for testing.
He staunchly believes that science only supports evolution, not creationism.
I was driving to work today and I started kicking around an idea in my head: an election season mixtape. The idea came up when I was listening to yet another boring (to me) report from the Democratic National Convention. My mind drifted off to presidential election campaign songs, and from there it was a quick jump to making my own election playlist.
On my way to work each day, I usually listen to the radio. Today, I turned it off.
I got uncomfortable when KSTP traffic guy Kenny Olson's described an accident involving a truck and a "short bus." KSTP isn't exactly known for its PCness, but I got the impression that Olson was being insensitive when he called the bus by that name.
I'm trying something new with the Minnesota Twins.
My interest in baseball has gotten me into trouble at times with my lovely wife. And that trouble has drawn to my attention to the fact that I am obsessed with Twins baseball.
It's not healthy.
A musical lyric about God that I heard on the radio today:
"In all this world, you're all that's true. I'll always stand for you."
When I first started working at your local newspaper, the Jordan Independent, I found prominent Jordanite Keith Thaves to be particularly encouraging to me, as an editor. He was a former publisher and editor of the paper, which he purchased in 1957.
During the past couple of days, I've been working on a story about the death of Thaves. He had suffered two heart attacks since September. He was married to Liz and had three children, Alisa, Jeff, and Chris. The story will be published in the Feb. 7 print edition.
Gov. Tim Pawlenty today announced he will resume broadcasting his “Good Morning, Minnesota” radio show this Friday, Jan. 5.
I am a regular listener, as I find the show to be entertaining and informative.
I can't believe I'm listening to Naughty By Nature on the radio right now. Selection on the radio these days is wiggida wiggida wiggida whack. Don't you think?
