Until we sang "Jesus Love Me" in church last weekend, I didn't remember all of the verses. It's nice to look back on what seems like a childhood song and realize that it still means a lot to me today. So here goes:

"Sunday Morning Coming Down" written by Kris Kristofferson and popularized by Johnny Cash has some of the best lyrics out there. Check out Kristofferson's mad lyric writing skills: "Well, I woke up Sunday Morning with no way to hold my head that didn't hurt. And the beer I had for breakfast wasn't bad, so I had one more for dessert. Then I fumbled through my closet for my clothes and found my cleanest dirty shirt. I got an iPod for Christmas! I’m excited about all of my new listening options, but does having an iPod mean no longer buying albums? I’m not sure what sort of downloader I’ll become. Will I download entire albums, or will I just grab singles?

The other day in church, song "Your Little Ones, Dear Lord" touched me. It was the writing of this hymn that makes me feel close to God. These are some of the words that had particular impressions on me:

- "Our little ones, dear Lord, are we ..." 

- "... enlighten every soul and mind, that we the way to you may find ..."

- "... kiss the ground before your feet ..."

- "Oh, draw us wholly to you, Lord, and to us all your grace accord; true faith and love to us impart, that we may hold you in our heart."

With all the year-end attention focused on the “best of” 2007 (including the Jordan Independent’s own chronology of last year), I got to thinking about how many things I like best from the last year that never get mentioned. So here are a few of the best things about 2007 in my opinion:

I love church, and I hate missing it. But my lovely wife was sick this week, so I stayed home with her until the baseball game started.

Sometimes, don't you just want to drop everything and tell God how in love you are with him? I do.
