Nancy Meyer is one of the lucky ones.

The Jordan City Council rarely grants a kennel permit, but it decided that her situation was not likely to disturb neighbors.Meyer, who lives along Hillside Drive, owns two dogs, which is the limit according to city ordinance.

But:

- one of her dogs is 13 years old, Council Member Mike Shaw said;

- it's a special circumstance because she is training a service dog, Mayor Ron Jabs said;

This morning I saw a pickup truck with a dead possum in it. It threw me at first, because I wondered what kind of person would carry around a dead possum in the bed of their pickup truck. Then I wondered if maybe the possum wasn’t dead when it found its way into the bed of the truck, and that it had died somewhere along the road. Either way,  the possum looked a little sad. Of course, I would be sad, too, if I was dead in the back of a pickup truck.
