Sound Off: What's your theme song?

Average: 4.5 (2 votes)

Have you ever heard of giving yourself a theme song? I remember seeing an episode of Ally McBeal where her therapist suggests that she give herself a theme song. She was to play that song in her head when she felt down or her self-confidence dipped (I think Ally's was "Tell Him" by The Exciters). Your theme song should be a song that gives you a lift as you walk down the street, a song that makes you feel happy, confident and in control. This all got me to thinking: If I had a theme song, what would it be? I think my theme song is (drum roll please) … "In a Big Country" by Big Country. I love how it starts with that guy yelling ‘SHOCK!’ and it’s such a happy song that just feels like it’s driving you forward toward greatness. It gives me the feeling that I can do anything and that happiness is there for the taking.

What’s your theme song? Why?
What song would put a spring in your step and hope in your heart?

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: my theme song is “Theme From ‘Shaft’” by Isaac Hayes. (I wrote about it here: http://www.jordannews.com/node/2575.) The great instrumental intro, the awesome almost spoken word lyrics, that part where the ladies interrupt Hayes with “Shut your mouth!” and he responds with “I’m only talkin’ ‘bout Shaft,” and then they say “We can dig it” – all classic lines in this classic song. I don't know about spring in my step, but it sure gives me confidence.

Runner up would have to be “Staying Alive” by the Bee Gees, because you can tell by the way I use my walk I’m a woman’s man, no time to talk.

"You Only Live Once" by The Strokes. The lyrics are a bit abstract, but all kind of relate to the title in some way -- basically saying there are all kinds of things in this world that can leave you disillusioned, but you can choose to walk right past them and maintain your own good vibe, sort of espousing a live-and-let-live attitude. And the music is amazing -- the saucy beat and good-time attack of the band really lift you up. I don't know if there's such a thing as a skip-strut, but that's what the song makes me want to do. Check out the whimsical video.

"I Feel It All" by Feist is a great theme song for me. It's extremely upbeat and makes me want to dance with my arms in the air. Plus the lyrics "I feel it all, I feel it all, my wings are wide, my wings are wide, wild card inside, wild card inside" make me think I should just live life in the moment and feel free to just be, to let go of all worries and insecurities. Here's the Feist video link, I think it shows the spirit of the song.

Truthfully I have had several theme songs through the years. I am sure all of you did. You hear a song and you think ahh that’s me!

When I was a kid, In my room by the Beach Boys..(There was 6 kids in the house and my room was the only place where I could get away from it all) then I went through the love them and leave them time so my theme song was “What’s love got to do with it”…then I met my x…and it became “Said I loved you but I lied” by Michael Bolton…Then he became the @!#@$$ x and he kept coming around to torment me so my them song became “I will survive” by Donna Summer…….

Sooooooooo that leaves me with now, I am not ready for “those were the days my friend” …no not yet…So right now seeing that I am into ghost hunting it’s “Casper’s theme song” for now until I find something that fits better.
